Intersecting Grids House
Project Overview
Description:
After carefully considering the organic shape of the plot and the Pandit’s opinion regarding its "shermukh" nature, we engaged in intensive discussions with the client and the mistri. These discussions were crucial in aligning all perspectives and addressing any concerns. Once all clearances were secured, the client granted us permission to present our design concepts, allowing us to move forward with the creative process.
Design Considerations
Major Faces & Form Development:
We identified the front and left faces as the major focal points of the design. I began developing the form around these key aspects, carefully considering the sun's path and the surrounding context to create a cohesive and functional structure.
Opening Strategy:
The idea was to strategically place openings in the north-east to maximize natural light, while incorporating a small window in the south-west to minimize glare and reduce heat gain, ensuring a comfortable and energy-efficient design.
Design Highlights
Garden Integration:
The backside of the house was transformed into a garden, with the windows of the lobby wrapping around it. This design choice not only maximized the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces but also created a serene and inviting atmosphere within the home.
Dynamic Facade:
The front façade features gradually rotated plates that create a sense of motion within a static visual, adding dynamic interest and a unique aesthetic to the building’s exterior.
Layout
Tenant Accommodation:
The layout was designed with the intention of accommodating tenants on the first floor, ensuring a functional and versatile space that meets both residential needs and potential rental opportunities.
